Routes to our Roots
Sanjana Mangrulkar is a multidisciplinary artist whose art practice obscures the boundaries between painting, sculpture and printmaking through the lens of materiality and artistic gestures.
In her artwork Routes to our Roots, she has merged the realms of painting and sculpture through the lens of abstraction by creating a 3D structure and deploying Jesmonite to depict sculptural connotations while being framed within the dialogue of a painting. She has also explored and experimented with the techniques of Intaglio Printmaking on Jesmonite and mulberry paper, alongside abstract charcoal drawings. Through multiple layers of ink and artistic gestures, the artwork begins unveiling itself as a monochromatic collage, depicting abstract images of roots and layers beneath the ground through her process of mark-making and printing.
