Empower-Her
Milly's final portfolio project, entitled Empower-Her, is a career development centre, incorporating adaptive reuse of a historical building on Southampton high street. It aims to support women in various stages of their career journeys, offering networking and mentoring support as well as independent spaces for women to work towards their goals, which have been designed specifically for them to feel safe and supported by removing design elements of surveillance that can be often found in office design.
Exploratory practice Weymouth Visitors Centre is the first project that Milly completed in her third year of study, discovering ways in which the seaside town of Weymouth could demonstrate its identity through a visitors centre. Milly chose to show Weymouth's identity through a site where the local people were able to be involved themselves at a help centre for raising local issues and concerns. Visitors and tourists could then identify Weymouth as a community that is building itself up, which they were able to see through a series of exhibitions the accomplishments that this site has made in improving the livelihood of those in the community.
