This project explores the concept of home and finding comfort in places and people. Exploring the idea of intimacy beyond sexuality, these photographs are attempts to embody the comfort found in loving a person and a place even when away from them. I photographed on location at home where I come from, both in the private bedroom setting and outside, as well as in the natural landscape around Bournemouth as an exploration of the places where I can find a sense of comfort when away from home.
Predominantly analogue, the photographic approach furthers the sense of home for me, with the commitment to complicated and experimental methods deepening an appreciation for the subject matter. I worked in both colour and black and white darkrooms, combining camera-less techniques such as photograms with film photographs and improving my knowledge of analogue processes through experimentation. I also used created analogue prints from digital photographs in the colour darkroom by turning my digital photographs into negatives and printing these using the contact method. My photographs presented here are all analogue in some way, either scans of my film or darkroom prints.
