Modification of the Autonomous
Modifications of the Autonomous is a video installation on the conversation of botanical colonialism and our relationship with plants.
Focusing on the Cordyline Australis tree, only its leaves in the form of cordage are manipulated to explore topics of identity, ecofeminism, and connection. Made up of a flatscreen TV on a tree-behaving stand, its wire is visibly wrapped with the Cordyline’s leaves. The video depicts a black-and-white video of shots moving between the artist herself, binding the rope with typically English trees along with the process of making the rope itself, as it is bathed, trimmed, and plaited.
