Over the course of my degree, I have developed my knowledge of garment making and how to execute a fitting. I enjoyed my time on this course learning many skills like flat pattern drafting and drafting on stand, sewing on industrial machines and researching the history behind the costumes I have created.
On my production practice unit, I worked on AUB Productions' Thérèse Raquin. It was a collaboration unit with the AUB actors and I made a 1940s day dress. It was a gorgeous lightweight blue and yellow dress with piped detailing. I also worked on a children’s dress up outfit for Salisbury Museum’s new exhibition, I enjoyed this project as I learnt new making skills for children’s wear.
For my major project, I constructed a pantomime dame boudoir outfit for Cinderella. The costume consists of over 15 different fabrics and trims and five garments. A nightcap, pocket hoops/bum pad, bodice, bloomers and a house coat. All were decorated with small and large bows, flowers and trim. It was a very challenging unit however I enjoyed every minute as it was such a unique costume.
Plans after degree
I plan to perfect my making skills further and find open doors for possibilities.
