Innovation Studio

Industry-engagement and our strong maker culture puts collaboration at the heart of everything we do.

Tom's Studio

Developing the studio pen. Supported by European Regional Development Funding (ERDF).

Tom’s Studio is a Dorset business run by craftsman, Tom Gyr. Tom makes and sells handmade high-end calligraphy pens to a global customer market – his pens are known for selling out in minutes!

Each unique piece is the result of experimentation with mixed material resins and all creations are zero waste.

AUB Innovation worked with Tom to support the research and development of a new range, The Studio Pen, launched at the British Craft Pavilion as part of London Design Fair (2017) and the Chelsea Flower Show (2018). Tom also made use of the specialist equipment at AUB in our digital fabrication workshop through a prototyping Access Voucher.

With the help of an AUB-ERDF Innovation Voucher, Tom was able to develop his capabilities in small-batch production by bringing more specialist processes in-house.

The final product, The Studio Pen, is now available to buy.
