About this course

Over three sessions you'll learn how to create a ‘made to measure’ footwear model. Using your technical skills in VR, you'll construct a unique 3D model before 3D printing a sample of your ‘made to measure’ prototype.

By the end of this course, you'll be confident using Gravity Sketch tools and functions to form custom 3D models that are suitable for 3D printing. You'll also develop transferable digital design skills that can be applied in a variety of other disciplines.

This course is ideal for designers, product developers, and other creative professionals who wish to gain a more in-depth understanding of the 3D design process in VR. The course has been designed for those new to VR and Gravity Sketch as well as those with an introductory level of knowledge.

Session 1

You'll be introduced to the working environment of Gravity Sketch, including operating functions of VR equipment. You'll start creating a footwear design concept using VR modelling tools.

Session 2

You'll experiment with a selection of tools to develop and refine your model. By the end of day two, you'll have a completed model suitable for 3D printing.

Session 3

With your 3D printed models in hand, you'll have the opportunity to evaluate the outcomes of your design process as a group. This final session will also bring the entire class together in one virtual workspace to experiment, collaborate and showcase their models.

By the end of this course, you'll be more confident in using 3D modelling tools in VR and understand how these processes can be used for advanced prototyping.
