This welcome pack is designed to give you an idea of what to expect during the first weeks of your course. We hope that you'll enjoy a happy and productive time with us, and we look forward to meeting you.
Congratulations on achieving your place on BA (Hons) Design for Costume and Performance at AUB!
The course will begin with an induction week, when you'll have the opportunity to meet staff and current students, find your way around the university, discover Bournemouth and learn more about studying at AUB.
The course is delivered over 30 weeks with the usual Christmas and Easter breaks. We look forward to welcoming you and helping you settle in to the community.

You'll receive a comprehensive reading list in the Course Handbook when you arrive and at the start of each unit. The books listed below (digital and hard copy versions available in the AUB Library) are suggested to get you started.
In addition, we recommend that you watch Abstract: The Art of Design (Netflix) – specifically the episodes on Ruth Carter and Es Devlin.
There's no summer project, but we recommend that you practise your drawing, read around your subject, attend some theatre productions, watch some films, and visit some exhibitions and art galleries.
If you'd like to practise your drawing but don’t know where to start, the book Character Costume Figure Drawing: Step by Step Drawing Methods for Theatre Costume Designers (Huaixiang, T. 2004) is highly recommended to develop your costume and figure drawing.
