About this course
Make-up artists are the visionaries responsible for creating both beauty and monstrosity. They can create something as simple as making someone look beautiful or plain and can also make someone look old, tired, or create a fantasy being or character.
This new summer course is ideal if you're looking forward to a career as a make-up artist or intend to pursue further studies in this subject. It'll give you the skills and techniques needed to explore the key creative role make-up artists play in performance, fashion, film, and television. You’ll learn and practice a range of fundamental techniques to increase your confidence, as well as your practical skills and develop the confidence needed to be a stand-out make-up artist.
Working in our dedicated make-up studios, you’ll be introduced to a diverse range of make-up and hair skills, as well as explore special effects and prosthetic make-up for film and television. A series of tutor-led demonstrations and inspiration sessions will help you to increase your knowledge and understanding of the make-up design and research process. You'll be encouraged to experiment with techniques, materials and styles and will take part in extended practical sessions that give you the opportunity to create your own looks. These will be recorded in a series of scheduled photoshoots to add to your portfolio or CV.
Across the two weeks, you'll be guided by faculty members, industry experts and visiting speakers. You'll work with specialist materials including latex application; a ‘fantasy workshop’ will guide you through the creation of your own creature transformation. You'll enhance your knowledge by studying iconic looks through the ages, and will recreate key aspects of the era and have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of period hair work, including wigs and specialist hair pieces.
Your work will be exhibited in a final make-up showcase where the course team will assess your work and development pieces in order to present you with a certificate of completion.
