About this course

This highly practical and immersive course will introduce you to the conceptual approaches to structure, space, light, styling the form and function of interior spaces, and the use of materials and furniture within it.

Across two weeks you'll explore new design and styling skills, learn new interior design processes, research your ideas and execute them through an overarching project to consolidate your skills. You'll focus on the development of conceptual and practical skills in order to develop your knowledge and personal creativity.

Throughout this course, you'll be introduced to essential interior design approaches and problem-solving techniques. You'll analyse existing interiors, retail spaces, restaurants and public spaces in the local area and learn how to appreciate and assess these interior spaces. Working in groups, and individually, you'll be assigned project briefs to stimulate your creativity through a series of immersive practical exercises and workshops. As you progress swiftly through the fundamental approaches of interior design and styling processes, you'll be assigned your own major project to bring your flair, imagination, and design ideas to life and to complete for submission into your personal portfolio.

You'll be expertly led through your studio experience by faculty members, industry experts and visiting tutors. You'll gain real-life interior design studio experience and develop your understanding, creative ideas, drawing techniques (both analogue and digital), visualisation skills, and modelmaking abilities. The course will provide you with high-quality 2D and 3D practice, and by the end of the course you'll be able to confidently express your ideas.

At the end of the course, there'll be an exhibition to showcase your completed work and you'll receive a final critique from your teaching team. Your tutor will assess your progress and development throughout the course, and will provide feedback as you go along.
