One week

What time will my classes be?

Monday-Friday, 09.00-17.00.

There'll be a daily lunch break, plus other breaks within the schedule.

In addition to the course's teaching hours, you'll be able to access our digital suites in the early evenings to continue with any post-production and refine images at your own pace, if you wish.

Please note, photo shoot times may differ during the course, due to location and weather conditions, so you should be prepared for a number of early morning starts and late finishes.

Your classes will take place on AUB's campus where you’ll be taught in our state-of-the-art creative studios and digital suites, with access to AUB’s library and online resources.

You'll also participate in location shoots off-campus where the ground may be uneven and you must be prepared to walk a moderate distance carrying your camera equipment.

Who's this course suitable for?

The minimum age for this course is 18.

We welcome aspiring photographers of all ages and abilities; it's perfect for anyone who has a passion to learn and develop their skills.

Do I need qualifications for this course?

There are no formal academic entry requirements or qualifications needed to study this course.

As a beginner- and intermediate-friendly course, you'll be expected to possess a fundamental knowledge of your DSLR camera/lens and the main functions/controls to benefit most from this course.

What should I be prepared for?

You'll be expected to carry your own photographic equipment, including tripod, which'll involve moderate walking distances, where the ground or path may be uneven in places. Ensure this is suitable for you.

You should expect occasional early morning starts, and some late evening finishes when shooting on location.

Bring a packed lunch, snacks, and drinks for all scheduled external activities. Students who've booked the residential with catering option will have lunch provided.

  • A DSLR with full manual controls (please bring your camera manual)
  • A wide-angle zoom lens that offers a reasonable range of focal distances is highly recommended
  • Additional lenses, filters, and any accessories you may wish to bring
  • A sturdy camera/accessory bag
  • A durable camera tripod (this can be supplied if necessary)
  • Walking boots and wet weather clothing
  • A packed lunch, snacks, and drinks for all scheduled location activities
  • Please note, if you book our half-board catering package, you'll have your lunch provided as part of your board.

About this course

Taking advantage of Britain’s outstandingly beautiful south coast, on this course you have the opportunity to rapidly advance your photographic technical skills, knowledge and abilities. This all-encompassing immersive summer workshop will empower you to capture breathtaking landscape, seascape, and architectural images amongst some of the most stunning locations the south coast has to offer.

Suitable for beginner- to intermediate-level students, this highly practical multi-location-based course will offer you the opportunity to carry out photo shoots at iconic historical and cultural landmarks in the surrounding counties of Dorset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire, including a visit to the historical heritage birthplace of British Photography, Lacock Abbey.

Taught by leading industry expert, Ben Pipe, who specialises in the field of landscape and architectural photography, you'll accelerate your understanding of the technical approaches and considerations specific to location photography and be inspired to develop your own personal visual voice.

You'll learn how to effectively plan, conceptualise, consider, and prepare for each respective shoot, learning the advanced techniques essential to producing both technically proficient photography and understand how to create meaningful images that offer real visual impact.

Throughout the week you'll be provided stimulating photographic briefs and assignments to encourage your thought making processes to encourage your creativity and imagination, supported throughout with feedback and guidance from your tutor.

Through a series of talks, demonstrations, and practical projects you'll be provided with the essential technical considerations, advanced camera settings and specialist applications to utilise and consolidate upon during your location shoots.

All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official AUB Summer Course certificate of attendance. You'll receive this at the end of your course.

On your last day there'll be an exhibition of the work created on the course; celebrate your achievements and those of your fellow photographers.

The Summer Courses team invite you to attend an optional farewell meal at a local restaurant. A perfect conclusion to your creative week where new friendships and skills shall be celebrated.
