About this course

On this fun introductory 12-week course, you’ll delve into the world of stop motion animation and learn how to develop characters, storylines, and transform 2D creations into engaging 3D animated productions. It’s perfect for anyone with an interest in animation and is aimed at complete beginners – no experience of animation, drawing or digital knowhow required!

This highly practical course focuses on storytelling through stop-motion animation. You’ll have the opportunity to explore innovative and original ways of creating and constructing character and narrative. You’ll be introduced to industry-standard animation equipment, software, and stop motion techniques, and build a comprehensive understanding of theoretical and practical animation processes.

Throughout the course you’ll focus on the importance of sound and movement, where you’ll be challenged to reinterpret and invent your own short, animated film. There’ll be elements of collaborative group work, as well as time to explore animation independently, to reflect the many roles involved in the animation process in industry.

The course draws upon the vast working knowledge and experience of your tutor, Tereza Tzelepaki, who has practiced and taught animation for several years. Supported with presentations and demonstrations from your tutor, you’ll be guided through each stage in an easy-to-understand fashion, meaning you’ll quickly gain the confidence to express your ideas to generate your own animated film.

  • Introduction to Adobe Premier Pro
  • Working in 2D domains and transforming work to 3D format

  • Incorporating sound effects
  • Poster making and screening

At the end of the course you'll:

  • Have a sound understanding of the history of animation including its various types, styles, and methods
  • Enhance your creative thought making processes in developing characters and storyboarding
  • Have developed stop-motion capture techniques
  • Be able to edit videos and incorporate sound
  • Have experienced creating both 2D and 3D animated productions
  • Have increased confidence in your own skills and feel inspired
  • Have boosted creativity and imagination
  • Feel encouraged to learn new ways of working with industry standard software
  • Be able to tackle a brief and create interesting solutions 
  • Possess the foundations to continue creating beyond this course
  • Leave with a sketchbook of experimental and finished works in a variety of mediums

Will I be assessed?

No, there is no formal assessment. You’ll group share your work at the end of each session with the intention to support, inspire and encourage each other’s learning. 

As the course progresses your tutor will measure your overall performance and offer essential guidance and feedback so you know how you're getting on.
