It’s never been a better time to work in the creative industries. The value of the creative industries to the UK is up from £94.8 billion in 2016 to £101.5 billion in 2019. The creative industries have grown at nearly twice the rate of the economy since 2010. There are currently more than 2 million (2,040,000) jobs in the creative industries and creative jobs have increased by 30.6% since 2011. 1 in 11 jobs** are now in the creative economy. Did you know that the creative industries employ 700,000 more people than the financial services?

In an economy where it’s hard to predict the jobs our new students will be moving into in the future, it’s great to  know that many creative jobs are future-proof jobs – 87% of creative jobs are at low or no risk of automation.

The Careers and Employability Service is dedicated to supporting you in turning your creativity into a great career. Recruiters are looking to employ graduates with the right skills, personal attributes and industry experience that will make them a great asset to their organisation. This is why course teams ensure employability is embedded in your curriculum, and why we provide quality information and guidance to help you stand out and  prepare you to embark on your professional future. We can help you explore your options and guide you in making the choices that are right for you.

Services we offer

The Careers and Employability team are Alison Zorraquin, Senior Employability Officer and Emily Rogers, Employability Officer.

Our goal is to support students and AUB Alumni in preparation for working in industry and to develop their careers. We offer careers appointments and organise a series of events and workshops on campus, like:

  • Lunchtime workshops: Run by the employability officers, these workshops cover topics ranging from CVs to Networking and using LinkedIn.
  • Industry Professionals on campus: Every year we invite professionals from Industry to give tips and advice about breaking into the creative Industry as well as providing start up and freelance advice.

One-to-one appointments

You can book one to one appointments to discuss your career options, check your CVs and applications or have a mock Interview. For more information, or to make an appointment with Emily or Alison, please call 01202 363 780.

You can also drop in to Student Services on campus (opposite the Students’ Union) between 8.30-17.00, Monday-Thursday, and between 8.30-16.30 on a Friday.

Employers and partners

As an industry representative or partner, we can help you to connect with AUB students and graduates by promoting jobs and opportunities as well as offering inspiring lectures, workshops and events. We value the chance to develop new relationships with employers and partners.
