On Wednesday 30 January, AUB Innovation launched a new series of lectures aimed at local industry, AUB students and staff.
The series was introduced by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Emma Hunt, who provided an overview of the work the Innovation team carry out, using the nickname AUBIT from AUB Innovate and Test.
The lectures will take place monthly and will explore both practical and conceptual design approaches, with each having its own theme. The first in the series was called Metaphor in Design, by Dr Phil Jones, the Dean of the Graduate School and Research.
Metaphor in Design delved into the meaning of graphic artefacts, with Phil demonstrating examples of four stages of metaphors: metaphors in language, pictorial metaphors, primary and conceptual metaphors. Phil delivered an engaging presentation which invited participants to join in and discuss source and target domains within metaphors.

AUB Innovation
The AUB Innovation teamwork to help students develop links with industry to help with future employability prospects. With making at the heart of AUB practice, students are encouraged to develop professional skills and strong links are forged with industry partners.
AUB is currently building a new Innovation Studio which will support early start-up businesses, with access to AUB facilities and workshops. The studio will be opening in the summer of 2019.
