Throughout my education at AUB, I developed skills in constructing historically accurate costumes whilst also gaining experience in theatre production, which I plan on specialising in my future. I expanded my skill set by taking part in tailoring, draping, pattern drafting, historical construction through research.
In my third year, I was lucky enough to undertake a personal project which explored Mexican culture and fashion. I have deeply adored my own South American heritage and wanted to celebrate and demonstrate this pride in my work by creating a mariachi costume. I created a well-fitted costume that helped improve my precision in sewing as well as maintaining a professional standard in a work environment.
For my major project, I worked on AUB Productions' La Casa Nova. It allowed me to work independently and cooperate with my production teams which furthered my communication skills and organisation. Alongside my sewing passions, I did a lot of experimentation with specific detailing, such as crocheting lace, reusing plastic to create specific shapes for garments and hand embroidery (which included, satin stitch, cut-out work, drawn thread, cross-stitch and white work embroidery).
Costume, for me, is the foundation of telling a story.
