Remnants

Remnants is a participatory, immersive installation evoking the sparse, institutional tone of an office or science lab. It comprises eight sets of insect apparel pinned to the walls, suggesting an entomology collection and a video work Insectation. The video documents an insect Zoom meeting, in which the insects discuss the exhibition, their lives and relationships with one another and with humans.

The audience can engage in multiple ways, exploring the work as an exhibition, wearing the apparel and holding their own conversations or watching others do this, or watching the video. Participants liberate the insects from the walls, transforming lifeless display into animated aliveness. With humanness disguised, individual egos are suspending and there is freedom to be ant or other, and to challenge behaviour and ways of being together.
