This project surrounds the theme of perennial plant life and their annual regrowth and regeneration. This cyclical process of death and rebirth comforts me through the winter months when life all around seems barren and empty. I remind myself that there is still life inside each leafless tree and decaying flower, resting, sleeping and waiting for the right time to emerge.
In my practice, I capture the beautiful strangeness of the natural textures and forms I see in nature. Each bump, wiggle, crack, and blob I make comes from the intricate designs I've seen in our magical home. Living in Wales, I grew up exploring rock pools and cliff sides, rich forests and muddy fields. I love to explore and watch all the bugs, birds and plants going about their individually intricate lives, and I love capturing all this beautiful strangeness through the medium of ceramic, ink, pen and photography.
I am particularly interested in experimental and automatic workshopping techniques, testing the boundaries of materials and combining techniques to create new and visually exciting works of art.
