I’ll Call You In Five?
I’ll Call You In Five? is an assemblage of mixed media artworks expressing the influence of positive relationships. The materials used include oil pastel, watercolour, acrylic paint, collage, Lino print and sewing. I wanted to move away for making work that reflected negative mental health and instead focus on good and constructive things happening in my life, the main focus being the people around me.
In this collection, there is work about the relationships I have with my parents, my siblings, my friends, my partner, people I no longer know, and the relationship I have with myself. There are repeated motifs throughout, such as a plastic garden chair repeated seven times, representing the seven members of my immediate family; faceless figures throughout that, to me, represent specific individuals but allow viewers to project onto the work their own characters; and several telephone poles. I also place a lot of value on the colours of the figures, most of them being bright warm yellows and oranges, showing the warmth and care felt for these people.
Plans after degree
After the degree, I plan on studying a PGCE at Birmingham City University to become a qualified secondary school art teacher.
