We hosted a unique three-day activity session for those in years 8, 9 & 10 who have an interest in art, design, media and architecture.
The event aimed to encourage those students who can benefit most from what we have to offer, whatever their background, to apply to further and higher arts education.
Our Spring Art School was divided into different subject areas giving students the option of focusing on one main art discipline.

This three-day activity was designed to give your students a taster of studying at further or higher education level. These sessions allowed them to develop specialist learning, team building, problem-solving and communication skills.
This activity took place on 22, 23, 24 May 2018 from 9:30am– 3:00pm.

Spring Art School 2017
From 5th to 7th April 2017, AUB welcomed 125 participants from 12 local schools/academies as they completed creative briefs in Acting, Commercial Photography, Fine Art, Interior Architecture, Modelmaking and VFX.
This three-day activity was designed for those in School Years 8, 9 & 10 (aged 12-14 years) who had an interest in exploring the creative industries. The presentation on 7th April was a demonstration of the hard work achieved in this limited amount of time – the work was fantastic to see.
All the students who participated were outstanding ambassadors for their school/college. They engaged proactively with the activity, worked tirelessly in teams and demonstrated confidence in risk taking as they explored creative solutions. We wish all participating students every success with their learning and career development.
Avonbourne & Harewood Colleges: “Thank you so much AUB for your hard work and enthusiasm over the past three days; the students have had an amazing experience and really enjoyed the time they spent at AUB. This experience makes such a difference to them and us raising the profile of the subject and encouraging students to consider art and HE as a possibility in their future. We are really noticing the impact of this course on students in Year 10 and 11 students, who are now determined to be the first in their families to go to university.”
Parent of participant from Upper Shirley High: “I just wanted to comment on how positive an experience my daughter found the Commercial Photography course she took as part of your Spring Art School. She was enthused about every aspect of the course and enjoyed the informal and friendly atmosphere at the university. As a parent, it’s a delight to see and the experience has encouraged her to really engage with the idea of going to university in 3 years’ time. Thank you for giving her this opportunity and opening her eyes to some of the possibilities offered by a university education.”
Wey Valley School:“Thank you again for the excellent sessions that included our students. They had a great time. It has encouraged them to consider art careers more seriously. Some told me that it was the best 3 school days they had ever had! Our students really enjoyed the animation and we have discussed setting up an after-school club.”
Cantell School: “Thank you for organising the Spring Art School, what an amazing experience for Cantell students. It has opened their eyes to creative careers and the courses which can be explored.”
Poole High School: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the really brilliant time that my students (and teachers) had at Spring Art School. My 10 students are still buzzing and were knocked out by the people, work, environment and atmosphere at the university. In terms of inspiring students from backgrounds where there might be a lower aspiration to participate in higher education, the course certainly hit it’s objective.”
