We continue to review our curriculum offer to ensure that, through both mode and subject of study, we are providing opportunities to those from under-represented groups.
We note the specific value of a diverse but inclusive community in which collaboration between students, and the application of learning across discipline boundaries, can teach the value of difference. This complementarity is a feature of undergraduate and postgraduate awards here.
Our Learning Strategy promotes flexibility of learning style and targets the achievement by each learner of his/her potential. This builds on the strategy of student-centred learning which empowers the learner to reach beyond their existing education and knowledge backgrounds.
We also note the potential to focus on diversity through the curriculum and support the intention of that Strategy to encourage a wider range of engagement through the learning experience. We provide holistic support through a professional Student Services team.
Cultural Hub: Staff Development Day
The Cultural Hub is a unique consortium of arts/cultural organisations and schools in Bournemouth and Poole, which promotes a direct dialogue, sharing of skills and meaningful relationship between the education and cultural sectors.
Its role is to bring together colleagues from schools and cultural organisations to create, develop and deliver inspirational learning opportunities for children and young people.
AUB in collaboration with WAVE Arts Agency and Cultural Hub hosted a specialist arts & music CPD session for teachers. The free workshops (including lunch) aimed to bring Hub teachers/educators together to undertake creative practices which support and complement their teaching.
If you would like further information on future sessions then please contact the Widening Participation team.
Thank you so much for organising Hammer and Click, it was a truly inspirational day. I have come away with so many new ideas, especially ideas I can take back to use in school.
SUN: Staff Development for Teachers of Art, Design and Media
School and colleges need to be vibrant, inspiring places. Teachers/Staff need to be just as vibrant and inspiring in order to give a rich and far-reaching experience.
In collaboration with The Southern Universities Network (SUN), we aim to bring teachers /educators from across the south together to undertake creative practices which complement and inform their teaching practice. Held at AUB and Southampton Art Gallery these sessions allow teaching staff to improve skills in state-of-the-art studios, whilst they explore a range of creative disciplines through practical application. In 2016/17 subject focused workshops were offered in creative writing, life drawing, image editing, and printmaking; which created an opportunity where relevant staff had space and time to be expressive and creative through drawing inspiration and knowledge from practising artists.
This opportunity enables me to enrich my teaching toolkit. To get inspired and meet other creative individuals. To learn or discover new ways of approaching drawing and creativity. The writing workshop was really interesting from an art teacher point of view.
The Southern Universities Network (SUN)
