Acting students collaborate with Arts4Dementia

BA (Hons) Acting Student Course news / Industry news / Engage – Published 23rd Mar 17

Second year BA (Hons) Acting students have partnered with Arts4Dementia on a series of workshops.

Students will work with participants with early-stage dementia, as well as their families and carers. The workshops are part of the course’s Applied Theatre Project, which encourages students to collaborate with specific target groups outside of the course.

Who Cares? is a series of talks, workshops and a one day symposium, bringing together award winning industry speakers, alumni and students from Arts University Bournemouth.

Who Cares? will explore how designers can make a positive difference to the lives of others and use their skills as a force for global good. This series of events aims to inspire and challenge designers to consider their own obligation towards social, ethical and sustainable design. The focus of the talks will be to share information, practice and philosophies, and demonstrate the potential for creativity to address the global issues we face today.

University Music present Goldberg Variations

University Music present Johan Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The recital took place on 30th September at TheGallery, AUB.

The variations were played by Sam Hanson on University Music’s newly-acquired harpsichord, by the maker William de Blaise.

Collaborative Project Success

BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design collaborate on Inside Out Dorset Performance Festival.

The festival saw a range of inspiring and uplifting performances and installations on the subject of climate change and the natural environment. Multi-disciplinary company Arbonauts presented Soaring Sky, a site-specific performance in the sand dunes (Whitepits) of Hengistbury Head.

Graphic Design students collaborate with Larmer Tree Festival

Three students from BA (Hons) Graphic Design have been working with Larmer Tree Festival to produce a festival newspaper.

Luke Brown, Amber Ruske and Emma McEvoy originally pitched the idea to Larmer Tree during AUB24,  as a response to the 24-hour live brief: “How do we creatively and successfully roll out and embed the evolution of our identity in our marketing activity throughout the year, at the festival and beyond?”

AUB collaborates with Modernism on Sea Festival

AUB students and staff contribute to the Modernism on Sea Festival. The festival celebrated Art and Culture of the 1930’s and took place at Talbot Heath School to mark their 130-year anniversary.

Among the many 1930’s inspired events that took place, BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design ran a workshop in Millinery and Modernism,  BA (Hons) Graphic Design ran a Type Print workshop while course leader, Simon Beeson from BA (Hons) Architecture gave an inspirational lecture.

‘Exchange’ at ArtSway

BA (Hons) Fine Art Course news / Make / Collaborate / Engage / Industry News – Published 28th Oct 15

BA (Hons) Fine Art students have been in residence at ArtSway and the Silver Hind Restaurant and village inn.

The exhibition took place across the two venues in the form of an exchange. The students collaboratively curated the exhibition treating the ArtSway gallery as a site for communal and social interaction and the pub as a platform to exhibit artwork. The art collection was removed from the pub walls and installed at the ArtSway Gallery.

Winners of the ‘Making it Happen’ 24 hour design challenge with Care South announced

BA (Hons) Visual Communication Course news / Make / Engage / Industry News – Published 27th Apr 15

Students from BA (Hons) Visual Communication and BA (Hons) Illustration have been announced as the winners of the second ‘Making it Happen’ 24-hour design challenge, which saw them design a new interview process and experience for home care planners.

Group E won first place with their Care South Planner Panic! app idea. The app encourages users to put themselves in the shoes of a home care planner and the challenges they face. The winning team included first-year BA (Hons) Visual Communication and BA (Hons) Illustration students Jess Jolliffe, Dan Cramer, Gabe Roberston, Holly Carter, Niamh O’Sullivan, Matt Cox and Julia Espitalier.
