First year students from the Commercial Photography course at Arts University Bournemouth are hoping for the public to vote for them, after they took part in a live brief for ReSource Magazine during an educational visit to New York. The brief required them to take iconic images of New York, with the image that receives the most votes being published in a double page spread in the magazine.

ReSource Magazine is an American magazine dedicated to the subculture of the photo production industry. They met with students and staff from Commercial Photography during their week-long visit to New York at a top New York photography studio. Students were then given the challenging brief to find the next iconic New York City image and photograph it for entry into the unique competition set by the magazine for the students. The students were briefed in the morning and only had the rest of the day to find their images and photograph them. The winning image – as voted for by the public – will then be published in a full page spread in ReSource Magazine honouring the newest iconic New York City photograph.

The students were also followed by a camera crew from ReSource magazine’s sister online magazine www.resourcetelevision.com with the documentary going online soon.

Conrad Tracy, Course Leader on the Commercial Photography degree at Arts University commented “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get their first published piece of work. Not only were they challenged to find an image that appeals to the masses, but they had to do it in less than a day!”

The images can all be viewed and voted for on the ReSource Magazine’s Facebook page.
