I am a design historian with a special interest in material histories of Eastern Europe, as well as socially and politically engaged design practice. My previous research has focused on the experience of modernity under state socialism, as well as the role of graphic design and visual culture in political propaganda in Western Europe.

I have recently completed my PhD at the Royal College of Art/V&A museum, with a thesis about design production in socialist Yugoslavia between 1950 and 1980. Titled “Designing Self-Management: Objects and Spaces of Everyday Life in Post-War Yugoslavia”, the research focused on the way design practice was used to articulate a representation of self-management in visual, material and spatial form. I am currently preparing the manuscript for publication.

My academic interests and experience lie both within my research and teaching, as well as my professional career as a designer and journalist. In the last three years, I have taught design history and contextual studies at several UK universities, such as the Royal College of Art, London College of Communication and University for the Creative Arts.
