Robert Hardcastle

Senior Lecturer – Film Production


Rob is Senior Lecturer in Film Sound at AUB where he teaches the theoretical, conceptual and technical aspects of sound across the BA and MA year groups. He is currently undertaking research at Australian National University (ANU) exploring how sound informs our sense of place and identity. Rob continues to work as a sound designer & re-recording mixer and has previously worked on a wide variety of projects including award-winning, and Academy Award and BAFTA nominated, features, shorts, broadcast documentaries and animations.


Rob was a Sennheiser & Skillset Scholar at the National Film & Television School (NFTS) where he studied for an MA in Sound Design and graduated with the Dolby Award for Best Sound. Previous to his work in sound post-production, as a sound recordist & producer, he had recorded in diverse environments, from the jungles of India and Indonesia to recording world leading acoustic ensembles in venues including Wigmore Hall and King’s Place in London.


Rob is a member of the Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) and has written for their printed journal.
