Study Skills Tutor – Student Services

BA in English Studies, MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL, Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (Cambridge)

Biography

I graduated in Applied Linguistics with TESOL in 2004, and since then I have been continuously developing my English teaching skills in a variety of contexts. I started my overseas teaching experience as a General English Tutor at Limkokwing University of Technology in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, followed by the roles of  the English as a Foreign Language Tutor in International House London and the Business English and 1-2-1 tutor in the Language Point College in Milan, Italy. There I also co-organized and delivered External Teacher Training for Middle and Secondary school teachers in Milan. More recently, I have gained significant experience as an English for Academic Purposes Lecturer at the English Language Teaching Centre of the University of Sheffield (2009-2015), where I also trained and practised as an IELTS Speaking and Writing Examiner. Over the last three years I have worked as an EAP (Reading and Writing) Lecturer at the University of Southampton (2015-2017). Overall, in the last ten years, along with a deeper understanding of EAP and Study Skills, I have also enjoyed working with university students and supporting them in adjusting to a new academic culture.

Professional practice

As a Study Skills tutor I provide one-to-one academic support to home students and deliver study skills workshops tailored to students’ needs, e.g. essay writing, research skills, time management. My particular interests are writing and referencing skills, new vocabulary acquisition and multilingualism.
