Jonathan became Course Leader of the BA (Hons) Film Production course at AUB in April, 2017. He is also a filmmaker and Senior Lecturer in Documentary. He recently completed a PhD by Creative Practice at the University of York. Prior to his film and academic career, Jonathan worked as a news journalist on a number of national newspaper titles.
His film work includes the feature documentary My Brother the Ark Raider (2013), made for BBC Alba in partnership with Creative Scotland, and the short documentary Get Luder (2010), which won the Delphic European Film Award. He co-manages the production company Plainview Films.
Jonathan’s practice-based research is focused on a theoretical and creative investigation of how the normalisation of surveillance technologies and practices are influencing contemporary cinema and the way in which we watch and interact with each other in relation to film, television, online material and news.
