Gemma Summerell attended The Arts University at Bournemouth and has a BA (Hons) in Textiles. Alongside providing technical support to higher educational textiles students, Gemma continues to undertake freelance work. There have been occasions where interest from the press was shown, both local and national. The local press attended the Lumen Ortis exhibition, which was a site specific event, and other work was featured on the BBC South Today programme in conjunction with Fashion Enter. Also, selected pieces were modeled at a Bournemouth Fashion Event. Over the years, her fascination for advancements within textiles has grown, particularly CAD embroidery. She began to immerse herself within the digital realm of stitch exploring the endless possibilities which led her using these skills as a stitch technician for an installation art piece in Morocco.
Gemma specialises in print and laser cutting to create bespoke fashion fabrics. She takes mundane objects as her starting point and transforms them into aesthetically pleasing designs. Combining digital/screen printed designs and laser cutting, she creates on trend fabrics that are reversible.
