Gaby has a passion for Wig Making and Postiche of which she discovered this unique industry during a BA(hons) course in Make-up. She spent her three years specialising in knotting wigs and postiche, wefting and constructing handmade bespoke foundations, using traditional and contemporary techniques. She also cut and styled her creations using a range of skills. Following on from her studies, Gaby has continued to develop her knowledge and abilities in this area working freelance, creating hand-made wigs, hair pieces and hair extensions as well as styling and dressing clients’ hair for different occasions.
Gaby has assisted doing make-up on numerous photoshoots, fashion shows and theatrical performances and has spent time at The Twins FX making props for theatre which included techniques such as airbrushing, de-moulding, seaming and prepping moulds for casting.
Gaby has 15 years experience in theatre as a principal dancer for a local dance company, where she also supervised the younger dancers’ hair, make-up and outfits. She has also spent over three years working in a fabric shop, building an extensive knowledge of materials, costume making and pattern construction. Her early love for theatre has dance has influenced her progression into the Wig and Postiche industry and working in a high paced, creative environment.
Gaby’s duties include assisting the lecturers in the delivery of the curriculum, providing knowledge of materials and techniques taught under the course and directing students in safe, professional practice to prepare them for work in the industry.
Since her commencement in the role, Gaby has become a fully trained First Aider and has taken on teaching an evening course Make-up for film, Television and Theatre which gives and introduction to develop understanding of the different products, materials and application processes used within the performance, film, theatre and television industry.
