Bernard has had a wide and varied working life to date. He started work as a baker and confectioner, then worked on carriage servicing and marshalling for British Rail, then joined the Prison Service as a Prison Officer, serving at Parkhurst, Pentonville as well as detached duty posts in Northern Ireland during the troubles. After leaving the Prison Service, Bernard came back to Bournemouth and worked as a security consultant, finally ending up at Abbey Life as a Facilities Support Manager. Unfortunately, redundancy followed and now he is with us and has been here for 11 years working in a Caretaker role.
Bernard carries out duties in a caretaker role as well as tending to maintenance tasks, health & safety issues, unlocking and securing the campus, waste management and recycling, supervision of contractors, and does his best to ensure a safe and clean campus to match the expectations of the student experience.
