Alison has a degree in Fashion and Textile Design from Leicester De Montfort University and a PGCE in Higher Education completed since joining the Arts University Bournemouth
Having spent many years as a Technician within the BA Costume and Performance Design course with a specialism in the Dye Room working with the students dyeing and printing fabrics and breaking down costumes for performances; Alison has progressed to Senior Technician for the Faculty of Performance working with both the BA Costume and Performance Design and BA Make-Up for Media and Performance courses.
Alison has a passion for making hats and has NCFE qualifications in Millinery. She runs an evening course in Millinery at the Arts University Bournemouth that spans the Autumn and Spring terms and includes working with different materials and being inspired by historical shapes. Alison has completed private commissions for occasion Millinery and continues to explore the boundaries and possibilities in this area.
Alison uses her Millinery knowledge within the course making hats for and supporting the students in their projects and to make hats and headdresses for the many live performances and shows that take place each term.
Teaching & professional practice
Alison has recently progressed to Senior Technician for the Faculty of Performance. This diverse role includes having operational oversight for technical resource areas; managing the team of Technicians; overseeing performance design aspects of Faculty productions and collaborative projects, and ensuring adherence to current H&S legislation and codes of practice.
