AUB Open Campus Bursaries

At AUB we’re proud to champion access for all to creative education and careers. That’s why we’re delighted to offer a select number of AUB Open Campus Bursaries.

AUB Open Campus Bursaries provides a number of fully-funded places on select short evening and weekend courses and Saturday Art School classes.

Creative Futures: portfolio preparation in art, design and media

This exciting 10-week course has been developed specifically to give students aged 16-18 the opportunity to experience life as an AUB student, whilst preparing for the next step in their creative education.

You’ll explore the application process for progression to Foundation study level and develop an impressive portfolio. Plus, you’ll receive guidance on interview preparation, techniques, and how to showcase your ideas, intentions and ambitions.

The Creative Futures Bursary is available to students living permanently in the UK. Students can apply when they reach the first year of A-Level (or equivalent) study. To be eligible for the bursary you must attend a state school or college of further education. You must also meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria

  • In receipt of a 16-19 bursary or similar grant OR received Free School Meals during at any point during your secondary school studies
  • Been in local authority care or looked after for three months or more OR are estranged from your family
  • Are a Young Carer
  • Have a parent who has served, or is currently serving, in the armed forces
  • Current home postcode shows that you live in an area with low levels of progression to Higher Education. (Postcodes within the lowest 2 POLAR4 quintiles)
  • Current home postcode shows that you live in an area that falls within the lowest 20 per cent of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD).

Please check your eligibility for the POLAR4 measure (postcodes in the lowest 2 POLAR4 quintiles qualify) and eligibility for the IMD measure (postcodes in the lowest 2 deciles qualify).

  • Developing skills in the fundamentals of visual practice and research
  • Conducting workshops in drawing, painting, sketchbook work, conceptual idea development, 3D, life drawing and sculpture
  • Working with a range of mixed media
  • Exploring a variety of fundamental creative techniques and methods
  • Developing observational and expressive drawing techniques
  • Developing a sketchbook with records of independent research, idea development and experimental work
  • Designing and producing creative work in a range of materials - analyse and respond to the work of historical and contemporary artists and designers
  • Continual formative appraisal and critique
  • Support in making an application to study at AUB

Creative Access Bursary

The Creative Access Bursary provides a number of fully-funded places on our exciting evening short courses for individuals aged 18 and over who are currently not in education, employment, or training.

Applications for the Creative Access Bursary is open to any individual who:

  • Is over the age of 18, AND
  • Is not currently in any form of education, employment or training

Adobe After Effects
Adobe After Effects is an industry-standard animation, compositing, motion graphics and visual effects application widely used in film, TV, and web-based applications. This course is designed for those with a working knowledge of video post-production and still graphic production who wish to add animation, visual effects, colour correction and motion graphic elements to their work.

Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator helps you to take advantage of the precision and power of sophisticated drawing tools. You’ll be shown by our expert tutor how to create professional quality illustrations for print and digital output. You’ll be guided through the basics of setting-up artboards, formatting type, drawing vector paths, curves, and applying dynamic effects.

Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is a highly versatile industry-standard imaging and photo-editing software. You’ll create collages, incorporate typography into images using the key functions of the programme, and gain hands-on experience while learning the fundamental principles of design. You’ll also discover how Photoshop can be used with other Adobe packages, such as Illustrator and InDesign.

Adobe InDesign
Adobe InDesign is a professional layout design software. On this course you’ll learn how to create exciting documents that contain both text and images, using a variety of layouts and design styles. You’ll be taught how to design and create leaflets, magazine spreads, presentation books, PDFs, and interactive documents with animation and some e-publishing elements.

Creative Writing – an Introduction
Whether you are interested in writing novels, writing for TV and film, theatre, radio, or copywriting or blogs, this course is an opportunity for aspiring writers to develop techniques for unleashing their creative potential and for existing writers to refresh their creativity. You’ll explore how to develop characters, set the scene, dialogue techniques, as well as the basics of structure, plot, point of view and tense.

Digital Marketing – an Introduction
This introductory course has been developed to provide you with knowledge and skills necessary to plan, execute, and monitor effective digital marketing campaigns. You’ll be exposed to the vast range of tools that exist to make your marketing efforts more efficient and less time consuming. You’ll also develop an understanding of the theory, rules and principles behind a variety of marketing platforms and how best to achieve great results.

Social Media for Business
In this hands-on course you will be provided with the fundamental skills to create relevant and creative social media content for your business’s social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. You’ll delve into the psychology and the theory behind successful social media marketing and will also explore the techniques and features each social media channel offers to make your content stand out.
