Our Collective House

Workshop – Published 16th Jun 14

Inter-generational skills-based drawing and stitching community workshops.

The aim of “Our Collective House” was to create a collective textile wall hanging that would be made by older and younger generations of people living in Islington. By learning a variety of textile and needlework processes together as a group, and working on a communal piece of art, participants would learn the value of working collectively towards a common goal and how different generations could learn & benefit from each other. The wall hanging would also be an opportunity for participants to express their memories of the area and what the area meant to them. It was hoped this would make everyone taking part feel more connected to where they lived, worked, went to school or socialised.

The completed wall hanging was exhibited at “Outpost” (community hub, shop and gallery space) on the Holloway Road, London in February 2015 before residing permanently in the Whittington Park Community Association Hall.
