About the piece:
NOT NEAT, NOR CALM, NOR PERFECT, BUT VIBRANT, CHAOTIC AND POWERFUL – WE ARE WILD 21ST CENTURY WOMEN.
We are not to be gazed upon but met head on.
Marking the Women’s Vote Centenary, KHAOS celebrates what it is to be woman, drawing on ancient stories and oppressive archetypes to bring audiences of all ages a highly energetic, stirring and visceral dance performance that rejects order in favour of complexity and chaos. Live musicians join six contemporary dance artists to revel in the joy, tenderness and the power of wild women.
Here now in 2018 we question the scope of our freedom, the choices we make and our work-life balance. The corsets are long removed, but are we still holding ourselves upright, breath held, lungs half full, fitting ourselves into an ideal that exists far from our authentic selves?
KHAOS acknowledges the importance of connecting to our raw and primitive selves; the inner (and outer) wild. In Greek Mythology the Goddess ‘Khaos’ was a wild feminine energy, an undefinable and chaotic mix of elements, erupting from darkness to give life to our universe. KHAOS is the potential from which everything is born.
Dedicated to women who have fought for their rights throughout history and continue to do so today.
