Glitch, Craft, and Illustration

Article – Published 28th Apr 15

This paper explores the potential of glitch as a creative strategy for the contemporary illustrator. Starting with an introduction to the notion of glitch, it examines the relation of this phenomena to the contemporary concern with craft in modern illustration practice, suggesting similarities of approach. Utilising examples across a range of media and practices, it positions glitch as an approach and attitude rather than a purely technological and stylistic concern. The paper concludes by suggesting that the adoption of a glitch attitude can be used to re-invigorate and establish new dialogues.
