Defining the itinerant illustrator in the 21st Century

Symposium – Published 19th Dec 14

Presentation of a paper at the 5th Illustration Research symposium held at Srishti School of Art, Bangalore. The presentation explored the expanding contexts of illustration emerging in the wake of ongoing marginalisation of traditional forms of work within the illustrators practice. The presentation proposed that we may need to re-examine what it means to be an illustrator within these contexts, and suggests that the practice needs to be identified with a more rigorous affirmation of its engagement with external texts (in the broadest meaning of the work).
