We recently caught up with graduating MA students as they exhibited their final projects in the MISC MA Exhibition in the Northlight Studios
Here, MA Fine Art student, Brian Callinan tells us about his work.
Can you tell us a bit about your work?
My work for me represents a journey, it’s a metaphor for the year that I’ve had. It explores themes of abandonment, things that have been discarded and overlooked. By taking items and placing them carefully in places, looking at their composition I think they become quite beautiful rubbish.
How has your time been at AUB?
Incredible. It has been life changing, and I’m not even exaggerating. From a year ago, I was down and out. I was at rock bottom – with many different issues. I got accepted onto this course with my portfolio, and it’s given me a new direction.
I’ve always wanted to explore art. I was given the chance and I took it with both hands.
The education I have received here has been first class, it’s been incredible and it’s changed my life.
What do you plan to do now?
Two days ago I got accepted on a PGCE course to teach, which I start on Monday. I’m really looking forward to it.
