Visual Communication Graduate Frederick Wiltshire
BA (Hons) Visual Communication graduates talked to AUB after their London Summer Shows. Here Frederick Wiltshire discusses his work
Can you tell us a bit about your work?
One of the pieces I’m presenting is my final project which is about a modular typeface system that you can print with and it’s to celebrate the lost physicality of type. I’m also showing an illustration project as well as my ISTD book about my late grandmother.

Frederick said the facilities at AUB were outstanding
Can you tell me about your time at AUB?
When I started at AUB I knew I liked typography but I was terrible at it. I couldn’t do it but I had a big drive so I pushed myself and the first year was a lot of fun. The second year was great, I loved it, and the third year was amazing because you can do what you want. I did a lot of editorial typography and illustration and I really hit my stride in my third year. Visual Communication is a small course so you get a lot of one-on-one time with the tutors, which is amazing. You get to know them and they’re really friendly. They really help you out but they also push you to do your best. The facilities at AUB are outstanding. I was able to do laser cut, letter press, screen printing, bookbinding, anything I wanted to do. They also do a really nice mix of contemporary design and past design.
What are you planning to do next?
I’ve got an internship for a month in a design studio in London called CKD which I’m really looking forward to as they do a lot of editorial.
