Award success for Textiles students
BA (Hons) Textiles students are celebrating success in two prestigious and competitive awards.
Students recently entered the Batsford Prize 2018. The Batsford Prize is an annual award, open to students across the following subjects: Fine and Applied Art, Fashion, Illustration and Children’s Illustration.
Students were asked to respond to this year’s theme of ‘Craving Colour’.
Louisa Bishop was awarded Runner up in the Applied Arts Category for her work, ‘Maximalism Meets Minimalism’. BA (Hons) Textiles students, Mollie Gorman and Chloe Benham, were also shortlisted in the Applied Arts category.

The Batsford Prize 2018 is run by Batsford and Pavilion Children’s Books. The awards were judged by industry professionals Anne Kelly, Sara Mulvanny, Clara Vulliamy, Vaughan Grylls, Gemma Williams, Neil Dunnicliffe and Tina Persaud.
Emma Astill has also been selected for the Quilters Guild Award 2018, along with fellow student, Lily Batsford. Both students will exhibit quilt-related work in the Graduate Showcase at the Festival of Quilts in August – along with just three other students.
The purpose of this annual award is to enable a final year BA graduate from a textiles-related course to further his/her textile studies.
The award aims to raise the profile of patchwork and quilting and also the role of The Quilters’ Guild. The winner of the award is selected at the Festival of Quilts by a panel of judges.
A bursary of £1,000 is awarded to the winner, who will be expected to use the award to further his/her textile studies. The winner will also receive membership of The Quilters’ Guild for one year.

There’s still time to apply for our BA (Hons) Textiles course, to start in 2018. You can make your application through UCAS.
