Architecture, design and arts students and graduates are being urged to take up a unique opportunity to boost their skills with a two-week programme in Italy.
Arts University Bournemouth is delighted to be working with the Sorrento Design Programme, based in the Bay of Naples, to allow students and graduates to expand their skills, both through practical and app-based methods.
During the two-week programme students will learn about the traditional wood inlay techniques of the region’s artisan craftspeople. Students will then be able to take the process further by designing their own projects based on these teachings – this could be a beautiful wood inlayed piece for design or architecture students, or completed code for computer science students, who will have the chance to help create a ground-breaking design-method app. These works can then be brought home to be used in AUB projects.
The programme is a collaboration between Ausbuilding Studio and the Museo Muta in Sorrento. Students will be working from their workshop in the heart of Sorrento – an ancient coastal town overlooking the Bay of Naples and close to Mount Vesuvius.
Students will learn specialist skills applied in innovative ways, helping to reinterpret skills and wisdom handed down from generation to generation. Students will have the chance to connect with local architects, designers and craftspeople in the Amalfi Coast region, with a design showcase displaying the results in Museo Muta.
This programme will suit students or graduates of architecture, design or the arts who are looking to expand their skill-set and build their experience of living and working abroad.
Running from November 5 -17 2018, the course is now open for applications. There is subsidised accommodation in Sorrento town available for early applicants and flights to Naples and the train to Sorrento are both inexpensive.
AUB students and graduates will have priority access to this fascinating programme. For more information, please contact David Getzin: email@example.com or Dr. Christian Mclening: firstname.lastname@example.org.
