Second year BA (Hons) Dance students were introduced to their new Dance Practitioner unit last week.

This unit gives the dancers the chance to explore ‘real time’ dance industry strands. During the unit launch students were given three options to work on for the term; either working as part of the dance team at Queen Elizabeth’s School (QE) in Wimborne, volunteering as part of the Parkinson’s Dance classes that run at Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) or to work for the Lila Dance Company on a live brief.

If students choose to work at QE School they will be delivering year 9 dance and the GCSE Dance curriculum, giving them first-hand teaching experience. Volunteering at PDSW would give them the opportunity to work on a national health and wellbeing initiative benefitting Parkinson’s sufferers with movement and cognitive therapy sessions through the medium of dance, or they can choose to work on a live performance brief from the Lila Dance Co, part of the company’s arts council bid for their new performance process and performance in 2019.
