BA (Hons) Textiles graduates have been talking to AUB after their London summer shows. Here Louisa Bishop discusses her work
Can you tell me about your final work?
It’s based on combining two juxtaposing themes, with minimalism meeting maximalism. So the minimalism is based on brutalist architecture and the maximalism is through pattern and colour and florals. So it combines the two together to create one harmonious collection. The colours are based on clashing but also complementing, so I’ve got a really good compliment from someone saying “it shouldn’t work but it does”, so that was nice.
Can you tell me about your time at AUB?
I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s nice to have the freedom to do multiple disciplines, not just one. It’s nice to do whatever you want whether that’s print or embroidery. I’ve worked on hard surfaces and soft surfaces as well as using laser print digital weave, all in one collection.
What you plan to do when you leave?
Hopefully to become a surface print designer – that’s the dream career at the moment.
