Saturday 17th March 2018, 10:30am – 4pm, Talbot Heath School

Get your creative caps on this Saturday for the Spellbound 2 Day Festival at Talbot Heath School. An exploration of literature and illustration for young people, this fun-filled event is open to people of all ages.

Celebrating 200 years of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’, Dr James Cole, BA (Hons) Creative Writing Course Leader, will be running a Creative Writing Workshop at the festival supported by students from the course. They aim to help young writers create exciting responses to many of the themes raised by Shelley’s work. Outputs from the workshop will go towards a publication of new children’s writing, and a celebratory event during the Shelley Frankenstein Festival this Autumn.

Alongside this, BA (Hons) Illustration Course Leader, Christian Edwards will be running a series of character-based craft workshops for KS1-KS4 pupils, supported by second and third year students from the course.

Eye-catching graphics and branding for the festival were produced as part of a collaboration with students from the BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Visual Communication courses. The results of this can be seen in the images below.

This must-see event also boasts talks from well-known literary greats, Gillian Cross (Demon Headmaster), Shoo Raynor (Author & Illustrator), Ali Sparks (Shapeshifters Series), and Kate Williams (BBC, author & historian).
