If you have been on a train in the last few months there is a reasonable chance you might have noticed some rather striking blue billboards clamouring for the attention of bleary-eyed commuters
But in case you didn’t catch one, then you will have missed out on our What Will You Do? campaign, designed to spread the word of AUB far and wide while showcasing some of our success stories.
The billboards have been seen at a range of stations across the country including Bournemouth, Salisbury, Southampton, Bath, Bristol and Oxford as well as taking pride of place at Clapham Junction and Vauxhall in London.
They have also had some great reaction on various social media platforms and we would like to introduce you to our four fabulous alumni who have been seen by thousands this summer.
The newest graduate to feature on the billboards was Becky Wilson from the latest crop of brilliant BA (Hons) Fashion students to leave AUB. She graduated in June and stole the summer show glory by winning the Christopher Bailey Gold Award at this year’s London Graduate Fashion Week.
Her work wowed the judges and she even managed to impress world-renowned designer Julien Macdonald in the process. After winning the event’s top prize Becky has been in conversation with brands such as Ralph Lauren and she is sure to set the fashion world alight.
One of the campaigns other stars was Katie Thomas, who studied BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and MA Architecture: Spatial Practices at AUB, graduating in 2015. Since then she has gained experience with the Design Studio at Harrods and is a visiting tutor with AUB’s BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design as well as teaching its Interior Design short course.
Katie now runs the Bournemouth-based interior design company, KTM Design, with business partner and Premier League footballer Tyrone Mings, of AFC Bournemouth. One of her latest commercial projects was opened by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, after winning the Queen’s Award but she also works for high-end residential clients in Sandbanks and Canford Cliffs.
One of our two poster boys was Tom Hovey, who studied BA (Hons) Illustration before graduating in 2006. After leaving AUB, Tom says he struggled for a while before landing the biggest gig of his life after blagging a job in the edit suite of one of the UK’s most popular television shows.
He is now responsible for the illustrated graphics seen on The Great British Bake Off and has created drawings for more than 2,000 bakes since the show started in 2010. Tom’s association with programme/phenomenon has also spawned The Great British Bake Off Colouring Book, which is available in all good bookshops.
The billboards also featured Andy Ryan, who studied BA (Hons) Photography before graduating in 2013. Since leaving AUB, Andy quickly found his style as a sports photographer, shooting events for Team England at the the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This obviously went pretty well because Andy then landed his dream job as Official Olympic Photographer for Team GB. He has photographed a variety of events, most notably Team GB at both the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the Winter Olympics in South Korea earlier this year.
