“My pieces are always really big and massive! My starting point was to work with restriction, so I looked at Middle Eastern cultures and feminism and why some women veil. I interviewed some Muslim girls and from their understanding of the Koran I discovered that development was very important.
I looked at different ways of restriction, for example S & M, and also in nature. With bugs and cocoons there is a transformation, a development. I wanted to show that restrictions shouldn’t be accepted. That we have our loose stitches, we can always break out.
Sometimes restriction is positive, a normal hug restricts you in a good way!”
