Our second term project of second year comprised the design of a new music school next to the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Poole. The project had us explore typology, urban context and structure. This project was the most tasking so far, calling for the consideration for a huge range of factors that we would have to tackle in an architectural practice – such as structure, materials, use, form, building regulations, environmental control and so much more. It forced me to think not just about the design of buildings, but the context in which I was designing and how it would affect the people who would be experiencing it.
