Depending on your nationality, and the country of your chosen Partner Institution, you may need a visa for your exchange.
Find out whether you will need a visa below. If you do need a visa, we recommend that you begin planning for your application as soon as you have been accepted for an exchange and make sure you are aware of application processing times and any other time constraints.
Most visa applications require:
- Evidence of your place on exchange
- Evidence of your funds (to show that you can financially support yourself whilst on exchange)
- Insurance documents
- Details of accommodation and return travel arrangements.
If you are not a British national, in most cases you will still be able to apply for a visa in the UK. Please check this in advance with the embassy of your host country to make sure you don’t experience a delay in your visa application.
I am an EU / EEA national
Within the EU / EEA, you will not require a visa , however we do recommend that you carry the supporting documentation listed above with you when you arrive in your host country, so you can present it to immigration if it is requested.
For an exchange outside of the EU / EEA, you will usually require a visa. The type of visa and application process will differ from country to country. We recommend you visit the embassy website for your host country to find out more information. The Exchange Coordinator from your host institution should also be able to give you information about applying for a visa for your exchange.
