University Music present Johan Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The recital took place on 30th September at TheGallery, AUB.
The variations were played by Sam Hanson on University Music’s newly-acquired harpsichord, by the maker William de Blaise.
Former Principal and Vice Chancellor, Professor Stuart Bartholomew CBE introduced the recital:“The concert is part of the University Music series which is jointly supported, by Bournemouth University and ourselves, providing opportunities for our students to engage in music making as well as to welcome performances by visiting musicians.
The Goldberg Variations are one of Bach’s supreme achievements. The complex web of musical texture and his mastery of counterpoint mark a seminal point in the development of Western music. The variations will be played by Sam Hanson on the restored William de Blaise two-manual harpsichord.
We are delighted that this distinguished soloist and the recently acquired harpsichord are joined in this performance. I look forward to the success of University Music in this new academic session.”
University Music offers a wide range of musical opportunities to students and staff of Arts University Bournemouth and Bournemouth University as well as to members of the local community.
