The AUBSU Thank You awards recognises those particular staff members who go above and beyond their roles at AUB.

Students had the opportunity to nominate staff as their chosen ‘thank you’, along with a little reason why they deserve to win. This year we had over 100 nominations with 54 staff members being nominated.

Dan Broadbent, President of AUBSU said: “It’s great to see such recognition from our students and even better to see staff doing such great things and getting something back in return! We hope to see this as the first of many ‘thank you awards’ and will be encouraging students to nominate next year.”

The awards saw the following staff honoured:

  • Paul Allen, Senior Lecturer on Commercial Photography (Gold Award)
‘Paul makes what could be a dull lecture fascinating. His passion and knowledge come through in every one of his lectures grabbing everyones attention. He notices everyones ideas, and thoughts and makes sure nothing is ignored. Not only this but he truly cares about us as students and is always welcoming to discussing any issues relating to a project or personal problem in order to help us do the best we can. He is an inspiration to us all.’
  • Alice Stevens, Senior Lecturer on Graphic Design (Silver Award)
‘She has a fantastic way of teaching because of the amount of engagement with all students in the course. Every unit and project Alice introduces is extremely well thought out and is designed to aid in the learning experience of the student. Her ability to see a student’s strengths and weaknesses is what makes her special, as she does everything in her power to give the right advice.’
  • Scott Blackmore, Technical Demonstrator on Visual Communication (Bronze Award)
‘He is incredibly helpful, no matter what time you catch him. He will go out of his way to make sure you get what you’re after, and that its the best quality it can be. He’s extremely selfless in terms of his work load, and he’s always looking out for the students, whether it be to do with work or even to just check you’re okay. He works extremely hard for our course and seriously deserves to be recognised for that.’
‘Plus he’s also pretty cool; he dresses as if he is from the alternative (dodgy) part of the 90s and he rollerblades a lot.’
  • Roland Dry, Foundation pathway leader, Illustration and Animation. (Highly Commended)
‘For being such a funny, understanding and helpful tutor. He fully engages with our ideas and is always willing to help us with a positive attitude no matter how tired he might be. He is also a great inspiration as an illustrator for his amazing work and his wise advice.’
