Visions of Colour, was a response to Matisse:Drawing with Scissors a Hayward Touring Exhibition from Southbank Centre, London, which TheGallery hosted in June 2017. The exhibition was curated by Lisa Richardson, Course Leader for MA Illustration at the AUB.
Through the exhibition the illustrators explored and celebrated flatness, colour, pattern and form. They considered the motifs and the subject matter that are fundamental to their own illustration practice and related these to the ‘paper cut-outs’ of Matisse. This is a selection of work from the original exhibition that was staged in TheGallery in 2017.

THEGALLERY AND AUB
TheGallery works with courses right across the university on a variety of exhibitions, events and projects. Visions of Colour is another example of one of these projects that we have worked on with the curator and students. When working on a collaborative project we provide advice and support for the curatorial and technical aspects of the exhibition, as well as advice on event and project management.
TheGallery provides a national and international public platform for the arts within the sub-region as we promote the University’s shared passion for excellence in education, industry and the sector. The MA Illustration course is a clear example of this as we provide the students with key insights into the industry to develop their skills.
The MA Illustration course encourages you to question the nature of your practice and its context and position relative to the creative industries. The MA Illustration course encourages you to engage imaginatively with your practice in relation to the evolving academic subject and practice of illustration. Your work will be considered in a global context, and critically examine the emergence of approaches that challenge orthodox practices. As a graduate from the MA programme, you will be able to carve your own niche in an evolving market for visual materials.
An MA is a chance to build on your achievements and study at an advanced level. Our courses are for students who want to deepen their understanding of a subject.
