Across AUB Campus Galleries
Suddenly Last Summer 2017 is a curated selection of work from our 2017 graduating cohort, showcasing over 60 artists, designers and makers. This summer we celebrate the achievements of just over 1,300 students who have since embarked on their professional careers and further studies.
This is the biggest annual exhibition that TheGallery stages. Every September, featuring the work from Preparation for Higher Education, BA (Hons) Degree and Masters Degree together in one major exhibition. It celebrates our maker culture and the talent of our students and staff. We passionately believe in innovative opportunities that come from collaboration between different art forms in the AUB Creative Community.
Committed to the disciplines of art, design, media and performance, AUB embraces the creative spirit that characterising life at the university. Amongst the AUB creative community are celebrated alumni at the forefront of their practice, including such luminaries as Sir Peter Cook, Nick Knight, Wolfgang Tillmans and Simon Beaufoy.
MEET THE CURATOR: VIOLET M MCCLEAN
With over 20 years of experience in the arts sector Violet has worked with national and international collections, contemporary galleries and museums. She is an independent Curator and Senior Gallery Officer at TheGallery, Arts University Bournemouth.
Violet has worked closely with AUB to establish TheGallery as a leading University Gallery with an international reputation and extensive programme of exhibitions, events and publications.
In 2010 she was awarded a Master’s Degree in Museum and Galleries Studies in Curating, from University of Southampton. Violet’s research specialism is contemporary Curatorship’s relationship to classical museum Curating, focusing on the approaches of Alfred H. Barr, Jr founding director of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
MEET THE Designers: William hernandez abreu and david lund
William Hernandez Abreu
William Hernandez Abreu has over 20 years of experience of working in performing arts; with a focus on dance, music and set design/making. William is a music designer and technician at TheGallery, Arts University Bournemouth. He is an active member of TheGallery Group and contributes to establish TheGallery as a leading university gallery with an international programme of exhibitions and events.
William is responsible for the co-ordination, production, exhibition design and the technical delivery of TheGallery’s annual programme of exhibitions and events, and the care of the AUB and Arts Council collections. He is the lead Technician on TheGallery’s Touring Exhibitions Programme.
David Lund is a PhD student and Visiting Tutor at the Arts University Bournemouth. His principle research interests include architectural modelmaking, design history and material culture. He is particularly interested in exploring different approaches to understanding and interpreting material objects. A trained architectural modelmaker, David works as consultant helping architectural practices introduce digitally augmented modelmaking techniques. With experience in commercial and residential interior design, he also provides freelance technical design and installation support for TheGallery at AUB.
Prior to his academic career, David had a multi-award winning career in bookselling, and is an expert in visual merchandising, retail design, and leadership and management.

AUB Open Days
Spend a day in our creativity community. Our open days are a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for studying at AUB, explore the campus, see what students are working on and talk to the tutors.

AUB offers a diverse programme of activities for schools and colleges that give young people the unique opportunity to engage in workshops with TheGallery and off-campus at schools.
AUB Gold Standard in TEF
AUB has been awarded the Gold Standard rating by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). The scheme recognises excellence in teaching and has stated that AUB delivers consistently outstanding teaching, academic support and outcomes for its students.
AUB No.1 for Graduate Employment
AUB has achieved a 98% graduate employment rate according to the results released by the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education survey. Of the 98%, an 80% proportion are in professional graduate employment, the highest percentage AUB has achieved to date.

The University places great importance on student involvement, therefore, we offer many short courses in a variety of art mediums and activities that can provide exciting opportunities within our creative community.
Saturday Art Classes
For aspiring and developing young artists aged between 9-18, AUB offers courses suited to explore creativity outside of the school environment, guided by our inspiring and experienced tutors. These classes range from a variety of mediums including modelmaking and animation.
Evening and Saturday Courses
With over 50 courses in 19 subjects, whether it’s about enhancing your creativity, mastering a new skill, or indulging in a subject you have a passion for, discover what our specialist campus has to offer from experts and collaborations with a diverse mixture of students.
